DECATUR, Ga. – The competition was intense, as five elementary schools were well-represented by their students in the final round of the DeKalb County Board of Health’s 2018 Dental Quiz Bowl. However, in the end, there could only be one winner. Haamza Ahmed, from Barack H. Obama Elementary Magnet School of Technology, prevailed as this year’s winner.

The annual quiz bowl’s opening round began in January. All fifth graders in the DeKalb County School District, City Schools of Decatur and Atlanta Public Schools (in DeKalb County) were invited to participate. As part of their preparation, students must learn and recall dozens of oral health terms and facts.

The other finalists were Luisa Licenga (Hightower), Nyla Lewis (Rockbridge), Des’Tini Peoples (Jolly) and Kit Ta La Paw (Avondale).

The Board of Health’s Dental Health Services hosts the quiz bowl. For more information about dental health or any of the other programs and services offered by the DeKalb County Board of Health, call (404) 294-3700 or visit dekalbhealth.net.
