DeKalb Promotes National Park Prescription Day

DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs and the Board of Health will partner to celebrate National Park Prescription (Rx) Day on SundayApril 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30033 and at various parks throughout the county.

Park Prescription Day is a national day of activities taking place in parks and green spaces around the country. This celebration is a growing movement of prescribing nature to improve healthier lifestyles. The goal of the day is to connect people with parks and improve physical, mental and spiritual health.

All events are free and open to the public at participating locations:

Mason Mill Park (Flagship Event) – 1340 McConnell Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30033, from
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Activities: Yoga, cardio, guiding walking tour, kid-focused fitness, health education and more.

Bouldercrest Park – 4184 Bouldercrest Park Rd., Ellenwood, Ga. 30294, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Activity: To be announced.

Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve – 3787 Klondike Rd., Lithonia, Ga. 30038, at
8 a.m.

Activity: Walking.

Hairston Park – 889 S. Hairston Rd., Stone Mountain, Ga. 30088, from 2 – 4 p.m.

Activity: Fitness obstacle course.

Henderson Park – 2723 Henderson Mill Rd., Atlanta, Ga. 30084, from 2 – 5 p.m.

Activities: Kickboxing, strength training and Caribbean dance.

Medlock Park – 1031 Scott Cir., Decatur, Ga. 30033, from 10 a.m. – noon.

Activity: Planting milkweed seedlings.

Olmsted Linear Park-Dellwood – 1775 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta, Ga. 30307, from 2- 4 p.m.

Activity: Planting milkweed seedlings.

Scott Park – 231 Sycamore St., Decatur, Ga. 30030, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Activities: Yoga, archery, Tree Chi Gong, Tai Chi, Lego activities and a live reptile show.

Springbrook Park – 1512 Springbrook Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30033, from noon – 4 p.m.

Activities: Earthing, Qigong, music, healthy snacks and face painting.

W.D. Thomson Park – 1760 Mason Mill Rd N.E., Decatur, Ga. 30033, from noon – 2 p.m.

Activity: Planting milkweed seedlings.

Zonolite Park – 1101 Zonolite Pl. N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30306, from 1 – 3 p.m.

Activity: Planting milkweed seedlings.

AIR QUALITY UPDATE 

Current weather models show that winds will begin to shift
from the east to the west after sunset on Wednesday.

Smoke from the BioLab facility fire in Rockdale County is predicted to settle towards the ground as it moves toward Atlanta. There is a high likelihood that people across Metro Atlanta will wake up on Thursday morning seeing haze and smelling chlorine.

DeKalb Public Health will resume normal operations
for all health centers and services at 8:15 a.m.,
on Monday, September 30.

SERVICE ALERT 

Due to today’s worldwide cybersecurity outage, some services have been impacted.

  • You may experience delays reaching our Call Center, which handles health center appointments.
  • WIC benefit issuance is unavailable at this time. However, eWIC cards can still be used at authorized WIC vendors.


This outage has not only affected DeKalb Public Health, but other government and business services, in Georgia, throughout the nation and internationally.

We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience, as we work with our partners to fully restore systems.
