The DeKalb County Board of Health recently presented the 2013 Dr. Gunar N. Bohan Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service to W. J. “Bill” Atkinson. The presentation was made at the agency’s 31st annual volunteer recognition.
“We are so grateful to Bill,” said District Health Director S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A. “He has been a loyal volunteer for over 10 years. He now coordinates the Medical Reserve Corps, engaging the community in strengthening public health and emergency response.”
The Board of Health thanked its many volunteers and partners during the event at the beautiful Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. State Representatives Stacey Abrams and Pamela Stephenson were the guest speakers.
In addition, Community Liaison Alicia Cardwell Alston received the Staff Award for Exemplary Work with Volunteers. She works with the Live Healthy DeKalb coalition, as well as other volunteers and interns.
