The OCDP School Health Coordinator assists schools in implementing and strengthening their school wellness policies and manages the School Grant program. Examples of things OCDP has assisted with include: establishing walking trails on school grounds that are open to the community after school hours, Safe Routes to School Programs and fruit and vegetable bars in several middle school cafeterias.

School Nutrition, Physical Activity and Tobacco Use Prevention Grant Program (School Grants)
This program provides grants of up to $5,000 to support school nutrition, physical activity and tobacco use prevention programs in public and private schools in DeKalb County. Schools must first complete the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, School Health Index for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Tobacco Use Prevention (a self-assessment and planning guide, available on the web at https://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/shi/default.aspx) to be eligible to apply for funding.
Students, teachers, parents, faculty and school staff benefit from program. The School Health Index allows them to identify strengths and weaknesses in nutrition, physical activity and tobacco use prevention programs and policies. The schools then develop and implement programs and policies that are specific to their needs.
Grant applications are available once per year (usually June-August). Call for information or check our web site at www.DeKalbHealth.net
