Swimmer Health and Safety
Tips for all swimmers
- Upon entering the pool area, locate the first aid kit and safety equipment in case it’s needed.
- Be sure the deck is in good repair and free of obstructions and debris.
- Do not engage in boisterous activity or “horseplay” near the pool.
- Before entering the pool, rinse your body off to help keep the pool water clean.
- Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher and both ultraviolet (UV) A and B protection. Re-apply after swimming.
- Don’t swallow pool water or get it in your mouth.
- Wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilet.
- Don’t enter the pool if you have diarrhea.
Tips for parents
- Keep an eye on children 17 years old and younger at all times.
- Make sure children wear life jackets. Don’t use air-filled swimming aids (like “water wings”) as life jackets.
- Change diapers in the restroom, not at the poolside. Wash your hands with soap and water after a diaper change.
- Take children for frequent bathroom breaks. Don’t wait for them to tell you they have to go.
