Guidance for Addressing Mold Issues
While our Environmental Health department can address mold issues from a sanitation perspective for permitted facilities, such as restaurants and hotels, it does not have the authority to address mold issues in private residences or rental properties. Mold problems may result from inadequate ventilation, leaking plumbing, improper repairs or poor construction. It is helpful to be aware of how mold growth relates to water intrusion, excessive moisture and condensation on surfaces.
Below are resources that may be able to assist you in resolving mold issues:
- Private Residence
- Read the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Mold Cleanup in Your Home” webpage.
- Read the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Mold Cleanup in Your Home” webpage.
- Rental Property
- Contact your landlord. If your landlord doesn’t respond to a request to address a mold issue, read Georgia Landlord Tenant Handbook (starting on page 10) for more information.
