Beverly Burks, M.B.A.

Chair
Mayor Burks was sworn in as the mayor of Clarkston in November 2020. Clarkston is home to residents from over 50 countries and is known as ‟the Ellis Island of the South.” Mayor Burks works tirelessly to develop affordable housing solutions, support businesses and residents, create community-centric policing, leverage partnerships, and reduce health disparities. For over 17 years, Mayor Burks worked for several Fortune 100 companies as a business consultant and technical manager. She is currently the director of Community Engagement at the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority and is responsible for partnerships, grant management, and programs.

Delphyne Lomax Taylor, B.A.

Vice Chair
Ms. Lomax Taylor is a principal with V&L Research and Consulting, a market research firm with expertise in specialty marketing. She has been in the market research industry for over 25 years. Ms. Lomax Taylor is the recipient of a WXIA-TV ‟11 Who Care” Community Service Award for her work with the Center for Black Women’s Wellness. As a breast cancer survivor, she educates and advocates on the importance of mammograms through Susan G. Komen of Greater Atlanta.

Denise Revels, M.S.W., Ed.S.

Parliamentarian
Ms. Revels is a certified school social worker with over 25 years’ experience in education. She currently serves as the coordinator of Social Work Services for the DeKalb County School District, where she provides leadership for more than 40 social workers, the homeless education and foster care programs, the human trafficking prevention curriculum, and the Mindfulness Task Force. Ms. Revels is a trained mental health first aid facilitator, a child sexual abuse prevention presenter, and a suicide prevention trainer.

Sonia Alvarez-Robinson, Ph.D.

Dr. Alvarez-Robinson has over 30 years of experience helping individuals, organizations, and communities build resilience and thriving cultures. She is currently the associate vice president of strategy and organizational effectiveness at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She was a Director in PwC's healthcare practice where her work focused on helping leaders realize improvement through people and change. Earlier in her career, she served as the director of Strategic Resource Development at the Georgia Department of Public Health and led diversity, equity, and inclusion for the Minnesota Department of Health. She is a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems and holds a master's degree in Human Development.

Jada Bussey-Jones, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Dr. Bussey-Jones is a professor of medicine and the vice chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Medicine of Emory University’s School of Medicine. She also serves as the chief of Grady General Medicine and the assistant dean for Professional Development for Emory School of Medicine at Grady. Dr. Bussey-Jones has expertise in minority health and health equity, as well as patient and provider education. She has developed initiatives that address disease prevention for vulnerable populations, as well as curricula on cultural competence, disparities, and the social determinants of health.

Felipe Den Brok, B.A.

Mr. Den Brok has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and emergency preparedness that spans both the public and private sectors. He is currently the director of the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness. Mr. Den Brok’s background includes tenure as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and as a sworn officer with the Atlanta Police Department. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

AIR QUALITY UPDATE 

Current weather models show that winds will begin to shift
from the east to the west after sunset on Wednesday.

Smoke from the BioLab facility fire in Rockdale County is predicted to settle towards the ground as it moves toward Atlanta. There is a high likelihood that people across Metro Atlanta will wake up on Thursday morning seeing haze and smelling chlorine.

Warning SERVICE ALERT UPDATE Warning

DeKalb Public Health will resume normal operations
for all health centers and services at 8:15 a.m.,
on Monday, September 30.

SERVICE ALERT 

Due to today’s worldwide cybersecurity outage, some services have been impacted.

  • You may experience delays reaching our Call Center, which handles health center appointments.
  • WIC benefit issuance is unavailable at this time. However, eWIC cards can still be used at authorized WIC vendors.


This outage has not only affected DeKalb Public Health, but other government and business services, in Georgia, throughout the nation and internationally.

We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience, as we work with our partners to fully restore systems.
