The
Division of Environmental Health food protection staff permits
and inspects 1800 restaurants, caterers and other food service
establishments every year. The permitting process combined with
regular inspections and continuing education allows the Board
of Health to set and maintain a high standard for food quality
in DeKalb County.
All
caterering operations are required to have a valid food service
permit. This includes home based caterers. When contracting the
services of a caterer, always ask to see a copy of the permit
and the most recent inspection report. Both documents must be
made available to the client per Georgia code.
Together
with an educated public and safety-conscious food service industry,
the Board of Health keeps the likelihood of foodborne illnesses
to a minimum.
