What’s the law?
Georgia’s child passenger safety law states all children 8 years of age and under must be secured in a child safety seat or booster seat, and be secured in the back seat.

Best Practice
DO’s
- Keep infants rear facing to the maximum height and weight of the car seat. Never place an infant forward facing before he/she is over 1 year of age and over 20 pounds
- The American Academy of Pediatrics and Center’s for Disease Control strongly recommend leaving children rear facing until 2 years old.
- Keep children in a booster seat until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall and who are between 8 to 10 years of age.
- Children under age 13 are safest in the back seat.
- Check your vehicle owner’s manual for tips and important car seat installation information. If your vehicle does not have a manual, contact the manufacturer for a new manual.
DO NOT’s
- Never install a rear-facing car seat in front of an active passenger airbag
- Do not modify or install your child’s safety seat in a manner different from the installation instructions.
- Do not purchase a second-hand car seat if you do not know the history of the car seat, the seat is missing the product information labels, is over 6 years old, or has been involved in a vehicle crash.
