Unintentional Injuries in Children
Injury related death due to unintentional injuries remains a major public health issue. Unintentional injuries are accidental in nature and were not deliberately caused by another person with the intent to cause harm.
The DeKalb County Board of Health has over 25 years (1990-2015, Safe Kids of DeKalb) in providing unintentional injury prevention programs and services for children and families. Currently DCBOH provides public information and education on the following childhood injury prevention issues:

- Child Passenger Safety
- Data collection and reporting
- Fire/ Burn prevention
- Infant Safe Sleep
- Water Safety/ Drowning Prevention
Our programs target school aged children, parents, grand parents and caregivers, law enforcement, elected officials, and health care providers. If you have questions about childhood injuries please contact Brandi Whitney, Health Promotion and Prevention Coordinator, DeKalb County Board of Health, phone: 404-294-3700.
